Dubai in the Old Days (pre-1990)
In this week's Shadowland column, I talk about the high living in Dubai dating back to the 1980s. If you want to know more about how the Emirates came to be what they are -- and how they are -- the best place to start is with my 1990 book Expats: Travels from Tripoli to Tehran, which is still available in paperback on Amazon.com. You can even read the first chapter online.
