Video: How the NYPD secures the city (2009)

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, a lot of people have been wondering if New York City is safe -- or at least safer than other cities. If it is, and there is good reason to believe that's the case, this brief video produced by Lee Wang for Newsweek in 2009 suggests why.

Is the NYPD going to protect against a Boston-Marathon style bombing? Anybody can perpetrate this type of crime, anywhere, if they don't care too much about being caught. But they are not common enough to be significant in comparison to other dangers. The NYPD can't protect you against those either.
